Bulldog H.S. Academic Tournament

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Burlington and Mt. Anthony each sent a pair of teams to Yale University to compete in the tenth-annual Bulldog High School Academic Tournament and the rivals' top teams had nearly polar opposite days.

Mt. Anthony A was in battles all day long, playing three games that were decided by 10 points or less. The Patriots lost three straight close contests, none decided by more than 50 points, and ended up finishing 3-3 and missing out on the playoffs for the first time in three trips to Yale.

Burlington, on the other hand, experienced a day's worth of routs. After dropping their opener by 210 points, the Seahorses won each of their last five preliminary round games by at least 210 points to advance to the playoffs as the 14th seed. BHS then won its Round of 32 convincingly before getting blown out by eventual champion State College (Pa.) in the octofinals.

Burlington B and Mt. Anthony B both ended up in the same bracket and played each other in a low-scoring but entertaining game that Burlington took 70-40. BHS B would finish the day at 2-4 while Mt. Anthony B was 0-6. Neither advanced to the playoffs.
