Vermont-NEA Scholars' Bowl
NAQT State Championship tournament
The Vermont-NEA Scholars' Bowl is pleased to announce it will be holding the fourth annual Vermont NAQT Championship on Friday, March 12, at Spaulding High School in Barre and invites all the state's high schools to join us for an evening of fun and challenging quiz bowl matches.
The tournament will follow NAQT rules (http://www.naqt.com/rules.html) except that rounds will be timed centrally. It will also provide schools a chance to gain valuable experience before the Scholars' Bowl state finals; all teams guaranteed at least six matches, though an effort will be made to maximize the number of rounds, with a target of eight or nine matches for all teams.
Top teams will qualify for the prestigious NAQT National Championship Tournament, scheduled for May 28-30 in Chicago.
An entry fee of $15 per team will be charged and all schools will be initially limited to two participating teams. Additional teams will be admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis if space and the number of readers allows it.
Interested teams should note that participation will require them to leave school early. Check-in will be held from 3 to 3:10 p.m. and matches will begin promptly at 3:30 p.m. The competition will end at approximately 9 p.m.
A dinner break will be included in the schedule and teams have the option to order pizzas. The cost is $10 per large pizza. Teams that do not participate will be responsible for bringing their own meals.
Because we are unable to hire readers for this tournament, the coaches of all participating teams will be expected to moderate matches so that we can keep all teams playing in all rounds. We will have a quick rules meeting to go over the basics and answer questions, but please familiarize yourself and your team with the rules (http://www.naqt.com/rules.html) ahead of time. Also, if you know of anyone (parents, teachers, former players, etc.) who might be willing to volunteer to read matches or keep score please invite them to come. The more staffers we have, the smoother things will run.
We also ask teams that have either buzzer systems to please bring them.
The registration deadline is March 8. If your team plans to participate or if you have questions, please contact tournament director Kevin Commo at kcommo@scholarsbowl.org. He can also be reached by phone at (802) 355-7790.
